School is right around the corner! I can’t believe the summer is almost over. I wish I had a remote control where I could just pause summer. Wasn’t there a movie like that?
Along with the start of school, comes that scramble for school supplies. My kids love to go school supply shopping but I do not share their enthusiasm. I find it to be a very expensive endeavor. Every year I try to find ways to save money. So far, here two ideas that have worked for me:
1. Go with a budget:
Try to determine how much you have to spend. Try to be as realistic as possible. I then let my kids know:
“We have x amount of dollars to spend for school supplies. Any extras you will need to use your pocket money.”
My kids then know what to expect and have an easier time figuring out what they can buy within our budget.
2. Try to stay in one store only:
I have many friends who know the sales in each store and buy their school supplies accordingly. I envy them because that never seems to work for me. I can never get the right coupon for the right store and usually end up spending more. If I stick to one store, I seem to do a much better job of saving money.
Those are my tips for right now. I will keep you posted how our school supply shopping trip goes!
