Can We Stop Over Parenting?

Big and small hands on isolated background

Today, I had the privilege of joining a book club discussion at Bellefaire Jewish Children’s Bureau, here in Cleveland.

The book:
“>”Teach Your Children Well” by Madeline Levine.

It is an excellent book. Madeline Levine encourages parents throughout the book to rethink the academic pressure that we place on kids. She tries to “explode the myth that good grades, high test scores, and college acceptances should define the parenting endgame.”

There were many great points that were brought up by the parents in the group. One Mom, posed the question:
“But why are we so focused on our kids? What has brought on this phenomena of ‘overparenting’?”
She continued, “Because once we can figure out the reason why we are doing this, we will be able to better figure out a solution.”

I and the other parents there were intrigued by her question.
I now am posing the question to you. Why are we ‘overparenting’? Why are we so hypervigilant and nervous about our kids?
