Our next TeleSeminar Class is coming up on April 22. Our topic:
Mom’s Quiet 101: Taking Care Of Ourselves So We Can Take Care Of Our Kids
I have been working with April Perry at PowerofMoms.com for almost a year and I am really impressed with their website. They have big hearts, great ideas, and are committed to supporting and empowering Moms so that they can take care of themselves and their families.
I wanted you to meet April Perry who is just one of the women who make the Powerofmoms.com such a great website, so I interviewed her. Here she is:
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I love motherhood, I love families, and I try to do whatever I can to help other moms. I grew up in Southern California as the seventh of eight children, I went to school at Brigham Young University, and I majored in communications.
What is the most important thing parents should know about parenting?
It’s important to understand that the work of a parent matters on many levels. Parenting helps create solid families and communities, but the process of parenting also helps create strong individuals. Parenting isn’t something that you are born knowing how to do. It requires effort, practice, and patience. But it is definitely worth it
What is your basic parenting philosophy?
My main goal is to be present with my children and to do everything I can to create an environment where all of us can thrive. I want my children to grow up in a home where they feel loved and secure, and I want my experience as a parent to be wonderful. Whenever I have a challenge, I think about what I could do to make the situation better, and I’m always able to find some tool or resource to help me to do that. Parenting is a privilege, and when our family members treat each other with respect, were able to have a beautiful home environment.
What do you love most about being a parent?
There is so much joy associated with parenting. For example, this morning I got to go to the school to watch my kindergartener participate in a special musical he’s been working on. It was called The Barnyard Moosical, and my son was dressed up up like a pig. He was singing and dancing with the other kids. It was so precious and so cute! There’s just something precious about getting to be a part of a child’s life. It adds a richness and a depth to my own life, and I feel so grateful to get to be a mother.
Being an owner of a parenting website puts you in the position of helping parents all the time. What is the biggest problem that parents have today?
I think most parents feel overwhelmed. There are so many demands on their time, and there are so many distractions. When we can help each other to get a handle on our routines and responsibilities, and when we can learn how to focus on the activities that will have the greatest effect on our families, it helps us to be able to enjoy this process.
What do you love most about what you do?
I love knowing that the work I do can make a difference in the most important part of another person’s life. For example, I usually get an email about once or twice a day from a mother who has been positively impacted by our community. I will hear about how mothers were able to take more time with their children or be a little more patient, or be a little more deliberate. At the end of the day, we each want to know that we have done a great job within our families and within our personal lives. There’s too much depression. There’s too much anger and frustration. I feel privileged to get to do one small part to make another family’s life better.
