The 5 Love Languages Of Children: Book Club

Screen Shot 2015-02-13 at 12.02.18 PMOur next Book Club is coming up soon on March, 10. We will be discussing The Five Love Languages of Children by Gary Chapman.

Whenever I start reading a Parenting Book, I have noticed that I often start to feel guilty. I think, “Do I do this to my kids?”, “Gosh, I really need to start ____________.” It usually takes away from the enjoyment of reading the book and I start to resist any of the suggestions; I even find myself resenting the authors. Often, I don’t even realize that I am doing this until I am finished with the book.
I really want to avoid falling into this trap as I read, The Five Love Languages of Children by Gary Chapman.

So, I am just at the start of the book and I have found that it is moving quickly and it is an easy read. So far the advice is sound and I learning some novel and fresh parenting techniques. There will be a lot to discuss.

According to the authors, Gary Chapman and Ross Campbell, “Each child…expresses and receives love through one of five different communication styles. And your love language may be totally different from that of your child. While you are doing all you can to show your child love, he may be hearing it as something completely opposite.”

Chapman and Campbell, in their book, are committed to helping parents discover their child’s primary language and learn what to do to effectively convey unconditional feelings of respect, affection, and commitment that will resonate in their child’s emotions and behavior.

The 5 different love languages are:
1. Words of affirmation
2. Quality Time
3. Physical Touch
4. Receiving Gifts
5. Acts of Service
